About Me

Hello!

My name is Andy Epps. I am going to study abroad in Denmark. I have wanted to be an exchange student since I was in 4th grade. That year my family was a liaison family for an exchange student from Norway. (A liaison family makes sure that everything is running smoothly with the student and their host family. There are also put in place so if the student has a problem, they can contact someone outside of their host family.) We enjoyed it so much that we became the liaison family for four more students. The experiences that I had with these exchange students made me realize what an awesome opportunity it would be to study abroad; and what better organization to do it with than AFS, one of the most respected programs in high school study abroad!

I am very excited for my year abroad and am looking forward to all the things I will gain. I will learn a new language, become more independent, make friends from across the globe, stand-out on my college applications and learn about the Danish culture. I feel that all of these things will enrich my life and set me up for a successful future.

My decision to study abroad, at first, did not go over well with my parents. It took lots of hard work, persuasion and some heated arguments for my parents to finally realize how serious I was about Denmark. Recently, my mom has become more open to the idea and is starting to prepare for my year away. My dad is still "on the fence", but he is warming up to the idea. Most all my friends are happy for me and excited for all the things I will experience in Denmark. As am I! I am really looking forward to finding out where I will be placed in Denmark. Hopefully I will find out soon.
